closing down enaweb.com
I am closing down this blog for a while. It does not not have enough value for me to continue writing for it. Moreover, I am not having fun writing it knowing that nobody will read it, or get anything from it. I am having so much more fun writing about my baby at mehoon.enaweb.com, and venting my frustration at thecommoners.org.
Where should I 301 redirect this blog to? mehoon.enaweb.com or thecommoners.org? Let me think for a few weeks.

Mojopac
I’ve been installing, uninstalling a lot of software in my PC during the past few months. Because one of my jobs is testing tech toys and IT stuff which usually come with utility software.
Even though, OS virtualization seems adequate, I still don’t like the idea of installing/uninstalling software in my hard drive that often.
Then I found Mojopac, another incarnation of virtualization. It took me about 10 minutes to install the software on my USB flash drive. Now I got a fresh Windows XP with me everywhere I go. I can plug my flash drive in my friend’s computer, bam!, I got my own desktop without installing anything on my friend’s computer while still using my friend’s computer’s CPU power and Memory! pretty neat.
Installing and uninstalling software are entirely on the flash drive itself. You can even use Mojopac on your cellphone if you have enough disk space. (just a few hundreds MB.)

Pricing for a design service
Recently, I have to rethink about the pricing for my service. There are some differences pricing for my client in the states and clients in Thailand. But people are people, we are the same everywhere.
“Some people will always think that your prices are high no matter what you charge.” from Vandalay design
One of the reason is that some clients have no idea how much they should pay for your service. They have never hire anybody to create a website before. They have never hire anybody to design their new house before.
What should I do about it? Educate my clients and tell them how I will do the job, how is the job done, what action is involved in the project, and how hard it is working for the project.
Tell them all the details if you can, and I believe they will start appreciating what you are going to do for them.

Posterous
Posterous is a another type of blogging site. The idea is so simple, you might think, “Why haven’t I thought about it before?”
Posterous skip the sign up/setup process. You create your very own blog by writing an email to post@posterous.com. Posterous then creates a blog for you from your name, such as http://firstname.posterous.com. Very nice…
Check out mine at fatnote.posterous.com
There is no theme or template to choose from, but if the most important part of your blog is your post, then the default theme from Posterous does a wonderful job of emphasizing it.

Flash is now searchable!
This is probably the biggest news I have heard today. Adobe just come up with a way to make Flash website indexable by search engine. full story at Adobe
I’m not sure how it will impact my job, but I’m sure that it will completely change my approach on creating a website.
I always dislike a website that uses Flash as a main element/engine for many reasons. Search engine can’t see it is one of the reasons. But now that curse is lifted. wow… I’m not sure what to do with this new information now.
I don’t deny that I’m a bit relieve that there are still reasons not to use Flash.

What’s new with me?
I’m overseeing 3 website jobs, 1 big event organizer project, and 1 personal web project right now, with virtually no help.
I watched 5 feature length DVDs during the past 2 days…
Why? because that’s my way of coping with things when I’m in a crazy situation. haha I must be crazy.
Oh btw, I’m broke….mwahahahahaha

MyBook World
OMG!
I bought a refurbished WD Mybook World edition for $65 on Ebay. It works as advertised, of course, but just as advertised is hardly enough. Working just as a dumb file server? No, sir.
I was sad, desperate, and sad again. BUT! I found mybookworld.wikidot.com, and l learned from it that I could install a bunch of software on my Mybook to make it work like a little beastly *nix box.
Sample of mouth watering software on my Mybook? MediaTomb and Transmission

CushyCMS

I just can’t help but stop everything and write this blog. While I was searching for a Joomla replacement, I found this CushyCMS to be awesomely awesome.
Why? It’s just as simple as a CMS can be. No other simpler CMS than this one ever
As a designer, you can create a website using any tool you want, then define editable areas using ‘class=”cushycms’ tag to any page you want your client to access. Add your client account to CushyCMS. It’s done.

Worldwide Social Network Market Share

Worldwide Social Network Market Share - O’Reilly Radar
I’m not surprised to see that Hi5 is the most popular social network in Thailand. Even I who don’t care much about these things got convinced into creating my own profile on HI5. However, I still don’t understand its benefit. Why would I want to use it?
Anyway, the map itself is interesting enough. Thailand shares the same interest in HI5 with Mongolia, Tunisia, Portugal, Romania, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. hmmm
