Browsers war

flock screenshotIn my search for a dream browser, the one that let me browse, work and blog, I thought I would give Flock a try.
My criteria is I want to a browser with Gecko as a rendering engine. I want to write my blog without going to the web interface, but from either my software or my browser addon. The browser has to be fast, light, and beautiful. I hate it when the interface gets in a way when I browse the web.
I’m writing this blog entry on Flock which seems to be OK, except!!!! there is no option to select a category? How is that possible? Is it hidden somewhere? If so, I can’t find it.

Browsing the web with Flock feels like browsing on Firefox. Using web editor in Flock looks and feels like Firefox. And I don’t really like the look of Firefox on my Mac. Why don’t I use Safari? Because it is not Gecko. Web editor doesn’t work too well with Webkit.
Well, I haven’t mention that Flock interface has too many curves. It makes me think about Internet Explorer…argh!
Back to Camino for me then.

edit: aha! Category selector shows up after I hit ‘publish’ I might give Flock another try then. :D

Haven’t posted in a cool while, so I thought I’d leave some input…Known about Flock for a while, but I don’t blog…so you can put 2 and 2 together…Anyhow, if you wanted to stick with Firefox (because it’s oh so saucy), you can use ScribeFire (http://www.scribefire.com/) for blog editing functionality as a Firefox add-on.

Camino is alright, but it ain’t no Firefox, I’ll tell you that much. It’s cool how you can get an a version that’s compiled so that it’s optimized to run on your specific CPU architecture. Opera is dope too, but Firefox 3 whoops ass…REALLY.

I’d love to run Safari on my linux machine, but wait…DUH, I have Konqueror…SAME thing…LOL…KHTML…Anyway, I’m out…

I’ve tried Scribefire. There’re something about it that I don’t like.
Since this post, I’ve been using Flock extensively actually. I’m getting comfortable using it as my RSS readers and blogging tool mostly.

I can install extension on Flock as well. That’s a plus.

No personal blogging experience here, but I’ve heard good things. Anyhow, it ultimately comes down to personal preference. You should use what’s most comfortable.

While this has little to do with functionality, the themes for Flock are a bit sparse (understatement). I hate not being able to customize the look, especially after tweaking my Linux theme so much. I need to go for the entirely integrated look. Maybe you can just design your own Flock theme (because you have so much free time)?

Regarding the extensions, I’d be interested to know if a few key extensions work with Flock such as: Adblock Plus, NoScript, and MediaWrap. These are 3 of many I just can’t live without.

I have Adblock Plus, PMOG, Measureit and Firebug in my Flock. I’m sure you can install NoScript and MediaWrap without any problem.

Dude, this is like a conversation between just you and me…LOL. PMOG looks interesting…I think I’ll give it a go. I don’t do to much coding, so I think I’ll do without Firebug–although Measureit looks like a handy tool.

You should REALLY use NoScript because you never know when you might come across some malicious javascript. And MediaWrap = ability to watch thaitv.tv in Firefox on Linux. MediaWrap FTW.
