All work and no play makes Note a dull boy

All work and no play makes Note a dull boy I’m bored and boring, yes. That’s what I’m feeling about myself right now.
I was watching (don’t laugh) American Idol where Andrew Loyd Webber appeared as a guest mentor for the contestants. I felt like there was something jolted me in the heart. It may sound crazy, but I want to be a stage actor again. I want to be on a live stage again…maybe just for a few shows? Ima seek out my old theater friends first thing in the morning tomorrow.

MP3fiesta.com

I thought buying music from iTunes was a total rip off. You have to pay almost as much as buying a CD, while you only get the songs in digital format, no touchable material whatsoever. And, Apple might get as much as 10 cents per song.
Why do I need to think about ‘buying’ if I can just download the songs for free from torrent and just plain google search, you might ask? Because, I don’t feel good doing it that way.
I found MP3fiesta.com a few days ago, and kinda shocked what they have to offer. You can download any song from their list (millions) for about 10 cents per song. Who are they?

What you can do with $6.98

You can buy a portable recorder with $6.98!

OMG! “IT’S FUN - IT’S REVOLUTIONARY. IT’S ELECTRONIC (oh? :P)”

I found this ad in a (electronic) copy of X-Men first issue which was released in 1963. $6.98 back in 1963 is probably comparable to $300 to $400 nowadays which is about the price of an iPod.
But to be able to own a record cutter at $400 right now would be a lot cooler to me than getting an iPod at $400. Besides, manufacturing this record cutter machine nowadays would probably cost a lot more than manufacturing iPod, too.

Casual gamers

Since I stopped playing game seriously 6 months ago. (playing WoW at least 6 hours a day), I think I am now falling into a “casual gamers” group.
I started to think, “Now what game should I play that fits my time and needs?” I don’t want to play a puzzle game where there is not goal other than solving a puzzle and that’s it. I tried Bejeweled, Cradle of Rome and a few others. Cradle of Rome kept me occupied for the whole month. It was quite an upgrade from Bejeweled, but still… it didn’t fulfill my needs. Coming from an MMORPG game, these casual gamer games just aren’t good enough for me, but I don’t have enough time to play an MMORPG now. I still want to play the game, of course, hopefully I can when I reach 50.

Tango en Skai

I seem to have too much spare time lately. I went around around Youtube searching for “Tango en Skai” performances. From the original to merely an imitation.

Why can’t I play like her?

Of course, I could never be able to play like her. With this much concentration, it’s hard to think if Theramin has a long future. Well, at least it has been here for almost a hundred year already…
The double bass sounding part is just amazing. I’ve never heard a theramin sounded like that before. Maybe some of the audience never heard it either. The funny thing is that the audience just stopped applauding abruptly once they saw that Pamelia was really concentrating on the instrument. (as oppose to acknowledging the audience.)

gamers’ social networking

raptr.gifI wish I was still a gamer. I would have just installed Raptr client in a heartbeat. I still believe that I am a real/hardcore gamer at heart. Why wouldn’t I be? I’m still shamelessly dreaming of playing games all day all night without having to worry about works and family.
I don’t want to say that I don’t have time for it. Time shouldn’t be a factor. The busiest people in the world still have time for some silly things for themselves. It is just the factor of guilt that I can’t spend my precious time on games and personal entertainment. My guilt would have told me to do the right thing instead (attend to my baby, work on the projects, read that book I should have read a long time ago,…etc.)

Piracy Boosts CD Sales?

According to a research funded by Industry Canada, P2P downloaders buy more CDs.

There are two comments about the research I really like.

Why does it have to be that downloading INCREASES music sales, and not just:

People who download music LIKE MUSIC, and therefore are prone to buy more in general regardless of torrents.

Why does downloading and buying have to be directly linked in the behaviours of my mind, they are cousins (similar trends) and not twins (where one only gains if the other looses).

and

These statistics do not apply to me. Ever since I began file sharing, I have stopped buying cds. I support the artists by going to concerts and buying merchandise.

Besides, most of the artists I listen to are dead. If I bought their CD, I wouldn’t be supporting the artist. My money would go strait to the record executives, and I see no point in doing that.
