function > aesthetic?

function > aesthetic? I’m talking about website design. A developing country like Thailand seems to think otherwise. Take a look at www.truecorp.co.th and you’ll know what I mean.

True corporation is a big ISP, Cell phone, Home Phone, Cable TV provider company in Thailand. They generally have a lot of information about their operation to show off to web serfers. However, they seem to forget what the website is for, and what do users need from visiting a website.

The other day, maybe my head wires differently than the rest of True internet user, I spent more than an hour to find a way to upgrade my DSL speed from True website. Why don’t I just call the customer support? I did and they told me I could (or have to) change my DSL plan/speed from True website. “Oh, ok, it’s good to know, thank you.” I told them.

An hour later, I finally found it hidden somewhere under the “Online” link. But, that’s not the end of it yet… Well, I filled in the form, select 3Mbps DSL package as my new plan, clicked submit. Bam!…

“Server actively refused your request” waht the fcuk!!?

I tried again, same message. I wasted close to 2 hours trying to do something I should have been able to do in under 15 minutes.

Well, I tried again the next morning, and it worked. Apparently, the automated process wasn’t automate at all. There was nobody sitting behind the server at 2AM in the morning to work on my request. That’s what I think!

Look at comcast.com and educate yourself, True people, or any Thai who keeps telling themselves and everybody else they are a group of new generation, with tons of degree from UK, US, FU, CK, whatever…

Simple things that needs to be changed and you still can’t do it right.

I think it is because we Thais don’t possess an ability to do anything step by step. We know a lot of things, but we only know how to do all those things at the same time, no other ways. multitasking, huh?

What am I going to do? Part 2

While I’m still weighing my options here, I’m accepting various jobs my friends/acquaintances are giving me, which are fixing notebook, translation jobs…etc.
A friend asked me, “How did you have this much courage, Note? You didn’t have a job. Your wife was pregnant with your first child, you are a 33 year old man, and you didn’t have a set plan of what you were going to do in Thailand. How did you think you would manage once you got back here?”

Well, I told her I was one of the most fortunate man in Thailand. I have my own house, I have a car(my bro’s old car), and my parents still happily feed us, at least for a while. All I need to think is how I am going to feed my own family.

My next fun/educational project is to install Mac OS X on my PC.

Edit (10/22/2006): Oh noes! I don’t have SSE2 compatible processors which are Pentium 4 or Athlon 64 at least.

We all make mistakes.

Whatever I have done is due to patient thought. –Sir I. Newton.

Patient is my strongest attribute I have. More than quite a few times, it helped me through tough situation. Patient and calmness make your brain works effectively and in its full potential.

I made a few mistake during 3 years of working as a computer technician. Mistakes that would have cost a lot of money and precious time.

My boss is a type of man who is easily agitated by every little thing no matter how small it is.
The very first time I made a mistake, I was almost drown because of my boss’ blood pressure.
I accepted my mistake and tried to stay calm… It helped. Everything turned out just fine.

We (I and my boss) learned something from that incident. He rarely ever raise his blood pressure against me again.

Computer technician

One of my main role is a computer technician. Which is a boring job in some way and an interesting job in another way. I will just omit the boring part.

The interesting thing is the fact that no two computer are alike even though every component is the same.

Let me give you an example;

Most of the time my job is simply reformat and reinstall the computer. And usually before I reformat it, the customer will ask me to backup their important data first.

The “important” data in one’s sense might not be the same as the others’.

Once, a 12 year old boy let me backup, format and reinstall his machine as usual. As I went through his data needed to be backed up, I found some grown-up-you-know-what-I-mean kind of pictures and video clips. Well….I went on with my job.

The other time, a 50 something year old man asked me to do the same job. Interestingly this time, his important data are some pictures of girls porn!

Both times, I fought hard with myself if I should tell anybody. Should I tell the boy’s parents? Should I just call the police about the man’s illegal porn?

I did nothing…

I came to the conclusion that it was just the way of the world. Why don’t I just shut up and enjoy both porn!…
