edit: 11 ก.ค. 2551 - ทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างมีข้อดีข้อเสีย ทุกคนไม่ใช่ดีไปหมด เสียไปหมด ตั้งแต่วันนั้นจนถึงวันนี้ ผมคงต้องยอมรับว่า jaideehosting มีข้อดี มากกว่าข้อเสียเยอะ คิดอยู่ว่าจะลบข้อความข้างล่างนี้ทิ้ง เพราะรู้สึกว่าอาจจะไม่ยุติธรรมสำหรับ jaideehosting แต่ว่ากลับมาอ่านอีกครั้ง ก็พบว่า ผมไม่ได้บิดเบือนความจริงอะไรเลย ข้อดีก็มี ข้อเสียก็มี แต่อย่างที่บอก ข้อดีมากกว่าข้อเสียมาก ก็ขอทิ้งเนื้อหาไว้เท่านี้แล้วกัน

ผมมีโอกาสได้ใช้บริการ tech support ของ jaideehosting.com ในการทำเวปไซต์ของลูกค้าสำคัญรายหนึ่ง การโต้ตอบกันทางอีเมล์ระหว่างผมกับ support รวมระยะเวลาสองวัน ตั้งแต่วันที่ 6 จนถึงวันที่ 8 มกราคม 2551

ก่อนที่ tech (หรือหัวหน้าใหญ่?) มาตอบคนสุดท้าย ผมกำลังหา web hosting ใหม่อยู่ เพราะการบริการของ jaideehosting ทำให้ผมรู้สึกเหมือนโดนตบหน้า แถมกระทืบซ้ำอีกต่อหนึ่ง โชคดีที่คนตอบคนสุดท้ายเข้ามาช่วยไว้ได้ทัน… เฮ้อ… หรือว่าผมลืมวิธีทำงานแบบคนไทยไปแล้วจริงๆ จนทำให้เกิดปัญหานี้?

ดูอีเมล์โต้ตอบทั้งหมดได้ โดยไม่มีการตัดต่อแม้แต่นิดเดียว(นอกจากชื่อ web ที่ไม่เกี่ยว) สังเกตุว่าผมใช้ชื่อจริง นามสกุลจริงตลอดเวลา ในขณะที่อีกฝ่ายแสดงตนเป็นแค่ support สลับหน้ากันไป มาทั้งครับ และ ค่ะ เข้าใจว่าบริษัทคงจะเล็ก ทำงานกันในห้องเดียวหรืออย่างไร เหมือนว่าทั้งแผนก หรือทั้งบริษัทจะรู้จักไอ้ตัวปัญหานี้ (ผมเอง) เป็นอย่างดี

For the past month, I have been busy with a lot of activities. One of the more important one is the birth of my first baby girl. It has been a really interesting experience so far.

At first, I intend to write about it in this blog, but my personal life doesn’t really fit with this blog. So, I start a new one. Sorry, those of you who can only read English, I’m writing this one in Thai. Nothing there you will be interested in anyway.

What’s wrong with Thai sale representatives these days? Every time I walk into a big chain store, such as Home Pro (Home Depot), Index Living Mall (Ikea)…etc. A sale rep will walk up to me and tell me, “If you have questions, please ask.” well, sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t have a question.

But when I start asking questions, the dude just doesn’t seem to want to give me any good answer. Or sometimes, they just give me an impression that don’t really want to answer my questions…please just buy something and go away, that sort of shit.

It doesn’t bode well with the reputation of the company they’re with. Home Pro didn’t get my B400 because the lazy sale rep refused to show me a better toilet seat just because it was too high up on the shelf.

why the fuck did I ask him for help then? Just to chit-chat? I guess he just didn’t care if I wanted to buy it or not, he just worked there…that’s all.

I thought the picture was cool enough to be here. The camera is my Canon elph something. It had a problem with memory card, so I opened it up.

Since my job is a web developer, I run into a lot of problems when creating a website that will work with Internet Explorer. I took about 20 hours to code a website in using CSS, but I could have taken 5 hours less by just dropping IE compatibility concern.

Anyone who has a chance to read my blog, please use some other browsers. You will help make my life easier.

On a side note, Opera files antitrust complaint with the EU. Old news?

www.prosper.com is a peer to peer lending website. It’s just amazing how Internet can create new businesses and jobs like never before.
Prosper is just pure evil! People will just get money faster and get into more debt even faster than before.

องค์ความรู้, รากหญ้า, ต่อยอด คือส่วนหนึ่งของคำใหม่ที่ผมได้ยิน ได้อ่านตั้งแต่กลับมาเมื่อสามเดือนที่แล้ว อยากรวม แอ๊บแบ๊วด้วยแต่ได้ยินว่าผู้ใหญ่ดีๆเขาไม่อยากให้ใช้

ไม่รู้เหมือนกันว่าคำกลุ่มแรกกับคำกลุ่มหลังแบบแอ๊บแบ๊ว มีความแตกต่างกันอย่างไร คำทุกคำที่กล่าวมาทั้งหมดไม่มีในพจนานุกรมฉบับราชบัณฑิตยสถาน พ.ศ. ๒๕๔๒ ครับ
ขออนุญาติเดาความหมาย ในฐานะคนที่เพิ่งเคยได้ยินคำพวกนี้แล้วกัน

• องค์ความรู้ - ความรู้เก่า ความรู้โดยรวม ความรู้ที่สั่งสมมา หรือ knowledge base?
• รากหญ้า - กลุ่มคนผู้ใช้แรงงาน ผู้ผลิตพื้นฐาน ซึ่งมีจำนวนมากที่สุดของประเทศ
• ต่อยอด - ขยายผล(คำใหม่เหมือนกันหรือเปล่า) ขยายกิจการ กิจกรรมต่อจากกิจกรรมเดิมที่เริ่มต้นทำมาแล้ว หรือ การเพิ่มแนวความคิดจากแนวความคิดเดิม
• แอ๊บแบ๊ว - การทำตัวคิกขุ ทำตัวไร้เดียงสาซึ่งมักแสดงออกทางสีหน้า

อาจจะมีอีกหลายคำที่น่าสนใจ แต่ผมยังนึกไม่ออก จริงๆแล้วคำพวกนี้มีคุณค่าทางประวัติศาสตร์มาก เพราะว่าถ้าจะสืบความกันจริงๆแล้ว จะรู้ว่าแต่ละคำนั้นมีจุดเริ่มต้นมาจากเหตุการณ์สำคัญบางอย่างในเวลานั้นๆ หรือเป็นคำที่เกิดจากคนกลุ่มหนึ่งที่มีความสำคัญในช่วงเวลานั้นๆ แล้วทำไมคำพวกนี้ถึงไม่มีบรรจุอยู่ในพจนานุกรมล่ะ เพราะเหตุผลว่ามันเป็นคำตามสมัยนิยมที่จะเสื่อมไปตามกาลเวลาหรือ? แล้วคำโบราณที่คนไม่เคยใช้กันแล้วในปัจจุบัน หรือคำอะไรก็ไม่รู้ที่จะเห็นได้แต่ในพจนานุกรม เช่นคำว่าธุวดาราล่ะ? ทำไมไม่เอาออกจากพจนานุกรมซะ

การหวงแหนวัฒนธรรมไทยเป็นสิ่งที่ดี แต่หวงแหนในลักษณะนี้ขัดกับความเป็นจริงมาก ใครๆก็รู้ว่าภาษาเป็นสิ่งที่ไม่ตายไม่ว่าจะภาษาอะไรในโลก อย่างภาษาอังกฤษก็มีการคิดศัพท์ใหม่กันทุกวันเหมือนกัน ศัพท์แนวเดียวกับแอ๊บแบ๊วหรือต่อยอดนี่ล่ะ หรือว่าง่ายๆอย่างการเติมsuffix -ize ลงไปหลังคำก็ทำให้เกิดศัพท์ใหม่ขึ้นมาแล้ว ความหมายว่า ทำให้เป็น…(แล้วแต่คำหน้าที่เติมเข้าไป globalize, modernize, oxidize, Americanize, finalize…etc. ) อันนี้ผมเชื่อว่าผมไม่ผิดถ้าผมจะใช้คำว่า Bangkokianize ใช่ไหม

He’s a little crazy, of course. He reminds me of a Berkeley professor I met way back. Infact, he reminds me of a lot of Berkeley people I met. Maybe he’s a little way out there, but at least he speaks his mind.

And he wants a local liqour store to be able to sell marijuana, too! ahahaha

Other than Pantip.com forum, there is no discussion based website in Thailand. Why not?
A general answer is Thais don’t like confrontation, even anonymously online. We have our opinions, but we more likely to keep that opinion to ourselves, or just give a mild version when asked.

Thais particularly don’t like criticism. We just can’t take criticism that well.

Say, if I were to start a review website, something like Yelp.com for Bangkok, the main problems I would get are;

• There’re not enough reviewers to keep the site fresh.
• Most people don’t have anything to say.
• The people that say don’t have anything constructive to talk about.
• If Thais are still like what I have in mind, their writing skills are really bad.
• The service/restaurant that has a bad review would ask me to remove that particular review or I’ll get sued.
• …

For example, if you pick a Thai person from the street and ask if she likes (insert a restaurant here) in Siamsqure and how she likes it, you will get less than ten words answer.

Thais aren’t trained to be observers, or thinkers. We just go with the flow…

I have tons of eBook in my computer, but I hate reading them on my computer screen. This new toy from Amazon might be able to help me if it’s not this ugly. Texas Instrument from the 80s much? (I have a thing with the 80s era. Don’t really know what it is.)
